Chirundu to the Chongwe River

Activities of canoeing, community visit, game drive and walking.

DAY 1

Meet the guides after breakfast for trip briefing before setting off at approx. 10.00hrs from Breeze River Lodge. Canoe for approx 2hrs before stopping for lunch on the banks of the Zambezi under the coverage of a tree. Lunch stop and brief rest for approx 2hrs out of hottest time of day. From here we will canoe approx 15km through off shoot channels of the main river system before reaching our first over night island camp site Kakomarara island nestled below two hills.

DAY 2

Canoeing starts early after morning tea/coffee and biscuits. Departing the island camp for downstream breakfast stop at approx 2 hours after setting off downstream.

Continue through to a shaded lunch stop from approx 1230-1430hrs out of mid day sun.

Afternoon paddle through to Island Camp for the 2nd night wild camping.

DAY 3

Early tea/coffee followed by canoeing through our fixed fly camp late breakfast 0900hrs.

After breakfast we depart for a village tour after driving through the a game management area. Return for a late lunch 1400hrs followed by afternoon break from activities.

After an early dinner we then proceed on a 2hr night game drive and retire for the night after coffee around camp fire.

DAY 4

Early morning rise tea/coffee & biscuits followed by a game walk lasting approx.2 hrs

Return camp for breakfast and short break before setting off down stream again by canoe.

We travel light on this canoeing section with a picnic lunch and suitable provisions packed for the day. This section of river is one of the best in terms of wildlife which takes up the remainder of the day on water.

After loading the canoes onto our trailer we return to our fly camp after an hours in the back of a game viewing vehicle.

After showers and dinner we offer a night drive for those left with the energy to do so.

DAY 5

Early morning tea/coffee & biscuits followed by an English breakfast

Pack belongings for the return transfer to Breezes River Lodge approx 3hrs by road.

Crossing the Kafue river pontoon approx 1200hrs before arriving at Breezes River Lodge by 1300hrs for lunch

Relax at Z.Breezes or catch return transfer to Lusaka.

With every canoe safari, we provide three meals a day, cordials and safe, treated water.

If you wish to bring your own bottled water, we have cooler boxes available. Feel free to bring your own selection of beverages for the duration of the safari. We have a wide selection of beverages available for purchase at the Breezes River Lodge before departure. Unless notified, meals will follow the program below.

Please note - We do require prior confirmation of at least 2 weeks in advance to cater for special dietary requirements such as allergies to certain ingredients, etc. The main dinners are in most cases part pre-cooked and deep frozen prior to the safari, so it is important to have sufficient notice to ensure all is prepared correctly.

Early mornings start with tea/coffee biscuits before setting off down stream after packing up canoes and clearing camp.

Breakfast:

Generally after several hours of canoeing, the trip will stop for everyone to stretch their legs while the guide prepares an English breakfast of tinned fruit; eggs, bacon, sausages, fried tomatoes, toast with marmalade or jam; tea and coffee.

Lunch:

An assortment of cold meats, green salads, rolls and cheeses are served, along with a variety of sauces and pickled onions or gherkins to complete the meal.

Dinner:

Assortments of crisps or popcorn for snacks are served followed by a full dinner consisting of beef, chicken or mutton as main course options with vegetables and selection of carbohydrates, either potatoes, rice or pasta.

We do have seasonal and group pricing offers available upon inquiry.

Our green season specials are available during Nov 15th – April 30th (shoulder months), before peak season pricing from May through to Nov 15th.

Family and group bookings may secure preferential rates depending on availability at certain times of year. We tailer-make each trip to ensure we can accommodate any group / family requests.

Please note rates exclude park fee's, items not outlined and transfers to/from the Breezes River Lodge.

High Season

May 1st – November 16th

Please note that January and February are generally too wet to canoe as the river flood can become impassable due to floating debris and discoloured water. During the shoulder months (Nov 15th – April 30th), boats may be used to extract canoeists from the park areas as internal roads and bridges may be not be passable due to weather damage.
